8 new ways BountyUp is going to rock

I’ve got a full scratchpad of features we’re working on, (outside of the large list of bugs). Along with the upcoming visual redesign, here are a few ideas we’re working through:

  • Templates for new bounties
  • A “play-money” or “testing” section
  • User reputation levels, ala eBay
  • Open API (make bounties from bugzilla, trac, wishlists, etc)
  • F8 App (of course), and a UWA widget

We’re also reworking the sharing features, looking into openId support, and playing around with various social concepts. Our goal - not to duplicate the features of social networks, since there’s no point. Instead, innovate in ways to extract social value from the user’s natural behaviors. An example (in our current test build, which I was thinking I should make publicly available):

BountyUp doesn’t have friends. Instead, it has associates - anyone who has made a pledge on a bounty that you have either pledged on, or created, is an associate.

In the microcosm, this seems like a good fit. Obviously it’s going to need refinement moving forward, since people need to stop being your associate when you no longer have anything in common. But we’ve prototyped a “mini-feed” style view of the actions of your bounties and your associates, and it seems to make sense.

The real challenge, though - helping people to select something from their inner swamp of unfulfilled desires, attach a price tag to it, and put it up for sale. Hmm, maybe we should be looking at the GTD folks?
